The RSPCA is shocked and appalled at the use
of live dogs and cats as bait in shark fishing,
reported recently on the island of Réunion in the
Indian Ocean

It is understood that stray animals are rounded up
by local fishermen for the purpose.
RSPCA International senior programme manager Paul Littlefair says: "This is one of the most brutal
and distressing stories that we've come across.
The use of a live animal in this illegal and
barbaric way, involving the binding of its legs
with wire and piercing of the muzzle with large
hooks, is unjustifiably cruel.
"Given Réunion's status as a French overseas
département, we strongly urge the French
government to take immediate steps to enforce its
animal protection legislation and end this
horrific practice.
Members of the public should address their
concerns to the French embassy to help put
pressure on those in charge in order to bring this
ghastly activity to an immediate halt."

This practise is cruel and
barbaric. It should be stopped
and the people involved
punished if caught. Please do
something!

I came across your
page by accident and am now horrified by the
thought a "human being" could possibly use a dog
as shark bait. God bless you and those who fight
such horrors!
I feel sick to my
stomach at the thought of it.
Thank you,

Here in the USA we STILL have people
breeding dogs for fighting and male chickens
for fighting. Sadism is alive and well all
over the world. What a shame! I signed the
petition.

Yes, I saw that page. In fact, its the first
time Ive heard about it,
and it is heart breaking. I can not
understand the cruelty people wish
to inflict on animals.
Here in Australia, in a popular magazine, an
article was just published
which talked about a woman killing two
venomous snakes by pouring
boiling hot water over them, and jabbing at
them with a spade. I wrote
to the publishers expressing my outrage.
They have agreed to publish
statements from the government about the
fact that our snakes are
protected, and pouring boiling water on any
animal is just inhumane.
I continue to try to save the native wild
animals that people would
rather have killed. Yesterday, I saved three
snakes, and two lizards,
and one bird. Today will be even busier...
spring is definitely here.

We signed the petition (all 3 of us) separately!
It hurts to think of all the cruelty that is
going on in the world with all sorts of animals!
I see some of it on TV almost everyday now and
sometimes I feel so ashamed to be a
human!...There most come a STOP to this!!! Good
thinking of you, to bring this under the
attention!Dogs and cats....bait for
sharkhunting, unbelieveable! What's next???
Keep up the good work!
